Customer brought this in with a nasty rattling sound and wanted a good going over, as hadn’t been used in a while and had some issues.

All the tactile push buttons were oxidised and had to be stripped to be cleaned, restoring functionality.

New batteries and backlight EL panel were ordered and arrived, testing the EL panel before fitment:

Old battery still measured 3V, but for how much longer? So all the patches were downloaded using kfuenf’s java based library tool prior to replacement.
Software was on the original K5 V1.0 so programmed a new EPROM with V1.3 and fitted which apparently fixes a number of bugs:

Fitted new backlight, then new battery and of course, all patches gone – arrrghhh hope they reload ok!

Spent ages restoring all the patches – it was tricky as was fighting a dodgy Win 10 Microsoft generic USB MIDI driver which blocks the send buffer when sending lots of Sysex and needing USB disconnect/reconnect to fix – in the end resorted to installing the official Midiman driver for the Midisport anniversary edition and the rest went like a breeze.
The volume slider knob was missing, so that was replaced, and returned to happy customer!

Oh, and a missing couple of screws on the back were replaced too.
