Fault – preamp not detecting signal – traced signal through TL084 opamps but indicator section was a little awkward with PCBs in situ.
Found contour pot had a cracked PCB:
Made enquiries with Porter & Davies and as a refreshing change to most similar other enquiries, Tim Porter was extremely helpful, not only providing schematics, but also identifying the contour pot as being vulnerable to damage, and offered to send some parts for very reasonable cost to effect the repair, also including a master volume pot and some replacement polyfuses for the VMT board for reliability.
Fitted new pots and polyfuses
Tim mentioned that board flex (from a drop etc) can cause the pots to fail, so I added some PCB mounting to prevent such a future occurrence:
