Apparently the power switch got kicked/knocked by accident and now doesn’t work 🙁
Can’t get to it easily so it’s front panel off time again, 51 million screws and knobs! (The switch is secured to the chassis behind the panel with two screws)

Oops 1:

Oops 2:

A rather hard to find lever switch (centre position on, ‘down’ is off) – Panasonic SSL5S.
I did eventually find a close replacement (ALPS TV-5 On-On toggle switch) but had to order from Taiwan and wouldn’t be here for at least a month apparently, so in the meantime luckily the inside wipers and external stop were able to be repaired with glue, appears to be holding strong (as long as not forced ‘off’) and will be able to swap out in the future if needed.
Update: switches arrived, saving for the future. will need some metalwork as mounting holes are different, but action and lever dimensions appear to be the same.
