Fender Princeton 112 Plus repairs

Missing knob, reverb not functioning, loud pop on shutdown, volume pots very sensitive (almost full volume by quarter point).

Genuine Fender replacement pots with audio taper ordered from US to replace existing linear (not sure why they were linear):

and fitted:

Added an arc suppression cap across switch load contacts to reduce power off pop somewhat

… and managed to find a second hand replacement knob, unfortunately there’s two styles, one 180 degrees out from the other:

… so now the mid-point was pointing down! 🙁 :

That’s no good. So removed the inside plastic tangs and fabricated a small aluminium shim, glued in the correct orientation which fixed it.

Onto the reverb… output winding coil was found open circuit, very very fine wire; rewiring the coil would be challenging as the laminated steel former is riveted to the spring holder:

However by chance I took a look under microscope, and scraped a small bit of enamel coating off and could find continuity, so managed to repair by soldering another fine bit of wire:

I guess it failed where it met the connector pins (a point of fatigue) – anyway all working fine and customer happy!
