Guitar & Bass Amplification and Stage Keyboards
Live equipment undergoes constant mechanical vibration, thermal stress, and accidental damage during transit or performances. I troubleshoot faults down to the individual component level, whether that involves tracing circuit breaks caused by liquid spills on a Nord keyboard, replacing damaged traces, or tracking down elusive grounding hums on a bass amp. I also source genuine replacement components, such as audio-taper pots to correct sensitive volume controls on Fender amplifiers, and can fabricate custom shims to physically reinforce fragile parts against future board flex.
- Servicing of solid state and vacuum tube amps.
- Valve testing, matched set installation, biassing.
- Mechanical keyboard teardowns, contact pad restoration.
- Micro-soldering transducer coils under the bench microscope.
- Switch and jack cleaning and replacement where necessary.
- Restoring failed channels and tracing intermittent noises.
Active PA Monitors and Stage Hardware
Modern active PA speakers often house high-power Class D amplifier modules inside small, relatively sealed cabinets. This makes them vulnerable to heating and thermal shutdown under heavy loads. When these modules fail or cut out prematurely, I investigate the thermal issues – investigating insufficient cooling, re-aligning loose inductor cores, and modifying temperature sensor thresholds. Where necessary, I can integrate custom quiet internal active cooling to manage heat dissipation effectively. As well as repairing hard faults like shorted amplifier chips, I also service specialised stage gear, such as Porter & Davies tactile monitoring systems.
- Component-level Class D active PA amplifier module repair.
- Powered Stage Mixers
- Column arrays.
- Basic services – switch deoxidation, balanced cable fabrication.
