Customer brought in a rather tatty looking Rotel RA-1000, clearly had a good life (think ‘ex-pub’), but had some issues, and wanted a longer mains lead fitting
On testing, left channel no output, turned out to be a physically broken ALPS remote rotary switch, made of unobtainium, so had to effect a repair.

Metal slider band (bit like a bike brake cable) had been forced, bent and broken:

This was due to a very dirty, gritty and sticky switch contact assembly which was dismantled and cleaned up and suitably lubricated for smooth operation

Then as sufficient length was available on the remote ‘cable’, it was trimmed back about 1cm to a fresh section and a new lughole created for the rotary control end:

Some very very very dried out electrolytics replaced on the power board:

Then the speaker output relay disassembled due to tarnished contacts (would have been nice to know earlier as could have done the same time as the caps)

Cleaned up a bit more inside of grime and grubbiness

DC offset checked and adjusted, made repair to power LED, cleaned volume and EQ pots/sliders and fitted new 2m mains cable (twin oval 1mm2 to match original)
Case externals cleaned and returned to the happy owner
